Mar 1998 – May 2002
Various Trucking Companies
Deliver freight around the 48 states and Canada.

Wachter Electric Company
Salt Lake City, UT
Cable Technician
Installed data cable for large computer networks. Wired at junction box and laid cable network throughout factory complex.
This was in Salt Lake City, UT for a new Gateway computer facility.

Wachter Electric Company
Kentucky
Computer Technician
Installed new computer hardware and new software to over 30 nursing homes throughout Kentucky. In charge of a three man team traveling throughout Kentucky upgrading computers, software and network cables in large and small nursing homes.

Builders Square, Payless Cashways, Idelman Telemarketing, MCI Marketing.
Wichita, KS
Stocked shelves. Telemarketing. Little bit of everything.

Independent computer consultant and programmer.
Tried consulting for a while. Loved it, but not enough customers. And not having an actual business plan or direction I’m sure didn’t help.

American Airlines
Tulsa, OK
Network Analyst
Maintained digital and analog nationwide Wide Area Networks. Using Bell DDS remote testing equipment. Monitored network alarms, received trouble calls from help desk and took appropriate action. Kept detailed records of repairs and coordinated troubleshooting efforts between AT&T, Local Bell companies and on site vendors. System Administrator for department Novell 3.11 LAN. Database administrator and programmer for Paradox and Foxpro for Windows applications for network and manpower analysis.

Started out in this department, then I was hired back in to write a program to track network availability and manpower. Worked the regular technician job on top of writing this program. Think I was conned by the manager. Program became center of some major attention. During critical outages, during budget time, it became huge. Reports that it generated went to top management.

American Airlines
Tulsa, OK
Frontend Coverage Programmer
Responsible for installing and maintaining new software for DEC Microvax and Unisys Unix frontend processors. Worked closely with system and application programmers during implementation and troubleshooting of new programs. Analyzed software dumps to isolate problems in equipment or programs. System administrator for Unix system. Wrote programs in VAX C and Pascal, Bourne shell and VMS scripts. Familiar with ethernet test equipment.

Got really involved with programming during this job. It wasn’t a hobby anymore. This was still more maintenance and troubleshooting, but it was what I was good at. Programming on the side when nothing was going on. Wrote several good programs that helped the department.

Satellite Business Systems (Out of Business, bought by MCI)
McLean, VA
Monitored and maintained private business satellite communications networks. Installed new software. Coordinated scheduled maintanence with field engineers. Tech support for Field Engineers during trouble calls.

This was a great job. Excellent technology at the time. The company was jointly owned by IBM, Comsat and Aetna Life. Couple of our satellites went up on the space shuttles. During big company parties of course. A lot of stress. I was on the crew for the IBM account, who owned the company, high visiblity, loved every minute of it. Then came fiber optics, made satellite communications look slow. Satellites had the distance thing as a major barrier to speed. Company was bought by MCI
for the digital switches on the residential area. Lots of layoffs. I bailed before I got axed.

United States Army
Fort Detrick, MD
Controlled circuits going all over the world. This base has two giant satellite dishes for normal use. Plus two huge rotating dishes that were part of the russian hot line. We worked with other soldiers and some sailors all over the world. Helped set up White House circuits when the President went overseas. Even had circuits going to airplanes.

This was a really interesting place to work. Something happening all the time.

532nd Signal Company
United Status Army
Stein, West Germany
Monitored, tested and repaired voice and data circuits. Coordinated with other controllers during troubleshooting. Tested and repaired microwave radio equipment.

A remote relay stations in the middle of farm land and forest in central Germany. Closest real city was Cologne about an hour away. Mostly went to the US base at Giessen for supplies. Lived on site. Barracks and radio station were all in one building. Had VCR tapes for American TV. Got a 35mm movie once a week.

United States Army
532nd Signal Company
Giessen, West Germany
Fixed Station Technical Controller

Tested and repaired voice and data telephone circuits.

United States Army
Fort Gordon, GA
Advanced Individual Training
Fixed Station Technical Controller School

Learned telephony theory and how to test and repair telephone circuits.

United States Army
Fort Jackson, SC
